The iconic Union Jack dress that Geri Halliwell wore during the Spice Girls’ 1997 Brit Awards performance was a last minute affair. Geri was given a black Gucci mini-dress to wear for the show but, finding it boring, asked her sister Karen to sew a Union Jack tea towel to the front of it, and paint a peace sign on the back. The final touch was to spray-paint her black platforms fire-engine red - and thus, a piece of pop and fashion history was born. In 1998 the dress was auctioned off for £41,320, making it a Guinness World Record holder for the most expensive piece of pop memorabilia ever sold.
No lie … one day I’m going to own a dress similar, even if I have to make it out of a tea towel myself! ^_^ … just you wait.
